8 Simple Ways to Feel Happiness

Feel Happiness

In this brief reflection, I question myself about the feel to happiness. What is it? What it looks like? And if it is real and achievable, what should be the way forward…? This 8 Simple Ways to Feel Happiness

1.BE QUIET TO FEEL GOOD

BE QUIET

Small doses of silence have the power to completely transform your mood.

When you talk less, you listen more: You appreciate the different noises around you or the task in front of you. And you learn that being quiet creates much-needed space in this very noisy world—space for happiness to pour in, be it through reflecting on the little, beautiful things, or creating something new.

2.ELIMINATE CLUTTER

ELIMINATE CLUTTER

A messy home can easily become a big source of stress, which is one of the main obstacles that can get between you and feeling happy. Those stacks of books on the desk, random cereal boxes on the table, and piles of clean laundry in need of folding add up—and start to weigh on you. Spend some time tidying one room in your living space, whether it’s the living room, kitchen, or bedroom. You can even start with a specific task or section of the room, making it one thing at a time until you’ve got a clean, organized space. Not only will this create more room for happiness to grow, but it can also make life a bit easier in the long run. No more frantic searches for your car keys when you should be heading out the door!

3.BEING KIND TO SOMEONE

BEING KIND TO SOMEONE

Being kind to someone makes you feel like a nice person, sure, but it also can have a huge effect on your happiness. After all, pointing out the positives in others is a great way to start seeing more of the positives in yourself—and the world around you. Plus, by putting yourself out there, you improve your conversational skills!

4.VISIT THE LIBRARY

VISIT THE LIBRARY

Going to your local public library is completely free, and gives you access to all kinds of books, magazines, and other media to stretch your mind. Not only will you feel a little smarter, but you’ll also feel more connected to your community, and energized by the thrill of hunting through the aisles for an interesting new read.

Many libraries even have additional programming and activities such as writing seminars and author events. You can learn something new—or find a quiet nook to kick up your feet and relax with a book.

5.DRAW

DRAW

Drawing isn’t reserved for professional artists: Anyone can grab a pencil, pen, crayon, or marker and have fun doodling a simple design or practicing a complicated portrait. Animals can be an easy place to start if you are a beginner: The dogs, cats, and birds you likely see daily are made up of simple geometric shapes. Try starting with a basic cartoon and work your way up to a realistic sketch of your furry friend. You can also find tons of online tutorials and step-by-step guides to help you along the way. As you draw, you’ll be using both sides of your brain (the left side to focus on making sure your drawing appears correct, and the right side as your creativity comes out), which releases feel-good endorphins in your brain.

6.OPEN A WINDOW

OPEN A WINDOW

Fresh air does the mind and body good—especially if you’re typically cooped up inside all day. Fresh air can make you feel more energized than a cup of coffee. Pop open a window to help circulate stale air out of your space and lift your mood.

7.DARE TO DREAM

DARE TO DREAM

It’s way easy to worry about the worst possible thing that might happen when you’re facing the unknown. Instead, challenge yourself to imagine what the best-case scenario looks like. You can even close your eyes to focus on every little detail of the ideal outcome. Not only is it an instant mood-booster, but it also reminds you to think positively more often in your daily life.

8.SCREAM

SCREAM

It might seem a little odd, but screaming can be super therapeutic, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed. There’s something about the physical act of releasing tension—and honestly, doing something that you might feel you’re not “supposed” to do—that takes the edge off and lifts your spirits. Just be sure you don’t alarm anyone around you; head outside or yell into a pillow.
